Fashion often gets a bad rap for not being realistic in a day-to-day setting. Yes, some runways may only cater to clientele with Lady Gaga’s taste levels. Yes, Alexander McQueen’s Spring/Summer line may have involved cages around the models’ heads. But outside the world of avant-garde fashion, style can be achieved quite effortlessly with a few simple basics. Senior Anna Fang has mastered how to dress with both taste and simplicity, making the minimalist look obtainable for any occasion.
How do you define your style?
I would say it’s minimalistic, tomboyish and relaxed. I like to mix masculine elements with feminine pieces in darker shades because it works better with my eye color and skin tone.
Where do you find your inspiration?
I find my inspiration from a lot of Tumblr posts, especially ones with Kylie Jenner. Her style is similar to mine in that darker aspect and because she wears very simple things but makes it still look really good.
What are some of your favorite stores or designers?
I like American Apparel, H&M and Marshalls but a lot of what I wear is vintage from thrift stores. For designers, (I like) Ralph Lauren and Nautica.
What is your best style tip?
What I do when I’m lazy is throw on a cut off t-shirt and layer lots of jewelry or very simple gold pieces. Utility boots are also great for days when I want to stay comfortable.
How has your style changed through the years?
I’ve gone through a lot of phases. When I was really young, I always went for comfort. Then in middle school, I went through a lot of color. Now, I’m into simple, dark wear.
What does style mean to you?
Once you find your own style, you have your own individual taste and that lets you show your own character.
