On July 29, Kinsey Wallace, former director of aquatic center, formally declared her resignation from the position. Wallace had held the director position for over seven years. She decided to resign because of her interest in pursuing a degree in elementary education. During her tenure, Wallace
established a summer swim team program, a home school swim program and championed the center’s Make a Splash Program. Wallace said over email, “I am sad to be leaving the aquatic center.”
The aquatic center has hired Nicole Stein as the new director. Prior to working at the center, Stein worked at a YMCA in Columbus, Ohio. When asked about her responsibilities as director, Stein said, “Some of my responsibilities are staffing the lifeguards, making sure they (lifeguards) are certified, making sure I have enough swim instructors and they can demonstrate the skills needed and making sure the pool is a safe environment.” She also stated that her job was slightly different from her previous job at the YMCA because she could focus solely on running and improving the aquatic center. For the future, Stein is planning on making a few changes and said, “We’re going to really try to grow the swim lesson program because it is the feeder program into Carmel Swim Club. In October hopefully we will be able to rent another pool.” Stein has high hopes for the future of the center.
