The women’s cross country team is two wins away from its second straight undefeated regular season as it prepares for the Culver Invitational on Saturday. The team enters the meet undefeated and, for the most part, unchallenged, as they have dominated every meet so far this year.
The dominant season the greyhounds have experienced thus far is not a surprise to anyone on the team, especially Senior Renee Wellman.
“I expect to have another undefeated season,” Wellman said. “There is always more pressure on defending state championship to repeat, but I know this team is up for the challenge.”
The team heads to Culver Military Academy on Saturday to compete against some of the top teams in the state. Last year the Greyhounds took home first place at the Culver Invitational in a field of 30 teams.
“We know what it’s like to be targeted as the favorites, but our girls are determined to do as well as they possibly can this year,” Head Coach Mark Ellington said. “Hopefully that leads to us having some success.”
The meet begins at 9 a.m.
