Fantasy Sports Club members are currently participating in fantasy football, according to club sponsor Mike Meyer. They held a live draft for fantasy football season at the end of August, he said, and most of the 60 members attended this meeting in order to pick their teams.
At the meeting, names were drawn out of a hat to determine the order that people would pick players. They used snake order, which is where it goes from first to last in chronological order, then in the second pick it goes from last to first. According to Meyer, it took a while for everyone to pick his or her players, but it was easier to have a live draft than to do it online.
On each team there is a quarterback, two running backs, two wide receivers, one tight end, defense, and a kicker. All of the actual playing is done online. Each week, two teams play head-to-head, and whoever gets the most points wins.
“It’s fun competing against everyone, and it’s fun to see if your strategy works,” Meyer said. “You hate to lose more that you want to win.”
New members are welcome to join the Fantasy Sports Club at any time, Meyer said, and should stop by room E203 and talk to Meyer. The next club meeting is not scheduled yet, but will be around the NCAA Tournament. Co-presidents Clay Morrison and Karl Schneider run the majority of the club and have the say in when everything happens.
“It’s a great club, anyone’s welcome to join and it doesn’t take up a lot of time. It’s probably the most fun you can have, “Meyer said.
