Students for Education, a group focused on tutoring less fortunate children in the Indianapolis area, is currently planning for several fundraising activities. Aghilah Nadaraj, vice president and senior, said the last meeting focused on discussing what types of activities the club should pursue.
“At our Sept. 26 meeting, we talked a lot more about doing more fundraising activities,” Nadaraj said. “In the past we’ve done Christmas presents for the kids and Houndstock booths, but this year we’re trying to expand past that and do more events so we can help out the kids more.”
According to sponsor Sherri Pankratz, the club’s meetings and activities are almost entirely run by students.
“I leave most of the day-to-day functions of the club to the students,” Pankratz said.
Nadaraj said the club has been successful in terms or tutoring, with plenty of new members volunteering on a regular basis.
“We’ve developed a schedule that has a couple members go down and teach 3 to 4 days per week, so that’s a lot of our members,” Nadaraj said. ”It’s good that everybody is tutoring on their own, but I also think it’s important that we do some activities as a club so we know why we’re doing all of this.”
