On Nov. 22, Student Venture will host its annual Turkey Bowl event. According to sponsor Brian Clark, club members will bowl frozen turkeys into bowling pins for prizes that morning starting at 7 a.m.
Clark said via email, “There will be prizes and games, and you can hear all about (them at) Student Venture (Nov. 22) at 7 a.m. in the Freshman Center cafeteria.”
This event is thought of as a student favorite and has been a tradition for some time, according to Kate Shanklin, Student Action Leadership Team (S.A.L.T.) member and senior. Shanklin said that this isn’t considered a competition and that students come to have fun.
“We don’t keep score or make it into a competition. Really, it’s just about the fun in launching a frozen turkey into something that gets students interested in participating,” Shanklin said.
At its next meeting on Nov. 14, the club will watch and listen to Christian rapper 737 perform. Shanklin said in addition to performing, 737 will share his testimony about how he became a Christian.
The club recently changed its meeting format in order to have more time together. Student Venture now meets on Monday nights, which the club calls Student Venture After Hours.
According to Shanklin, the morning that follows Student Venture After Hours is now a service day. At the last service day on Nov. 8, Student Venture members passed out candy to students and staff members throughout the school and at the top of the trail.
Shanklin said, “We have students hand out candy, hold open doors and make CHS feel loved and appreciated.”
