The T-shirt design contest for the official Chess Club T-shirt has been postponed until further notice, according Brian McDonald, club officer and senior. The details have not been finalized, but it will most likely take place later on in the year, he said.
“We do need to get the T-shirt thing underway. I’m not sure exactly when, but we will try to get an announcement about it pretty soon,” McDonald said via email.
The first monthly blitz tournament turned out well, according to Andrew Kluttz, club officer and sophomore.
“(There were) about 15 participants, and (sophomore) Sameer (Manchanda came) in first,” Kluttz said via email.
The monthly blitz tournaments take place on the first Monday of each month in Room F103. Members are encouraged to challenge each other in these rapid games of chess.
Chess Club members plan to host an official United States Chess Federation scholastic tournament at Carmel, according to McDonald. This is to take place in the spring.
“CHS has never hosted one before, so we figured it would be a good tradition to start. We are still in the planning stages of this event,” McDonald said.
As usual, students interested in joining chess club are encouraged to visit Room F103 after school or contact club sponsor Margaret Winans.
“We’re still doing our thing,” McDonald said.
