Construction for a new fitness center at CHS will begin this summer. The fitness center will be two stories tall: the first floor will have a weight room, and the second floor will have two basketball courts and an elevated track.
“We will have a bigger training room and it will be more convenient for us,” Assistant Principal Doug Bird said.
According to Bird, the gym should be finished in a year to a year and a half. The gym will extend 90 to 100 feet outward and will be 16,000 to 18,000 square feet. It will be located next to the current weight room, and will extend into the parking lot. However, according to Bird, the school’s parking will not be a problem after the completion of the project.
“I think that the new addition will be great for everyone at the school,” Mitchell Sasseman, member of the track team and senior, said. “I think that it will give us more space to work out, and will be more convenient for track.”
There is still a possibility of extra parking being added for the school, but plans have not been finalized as of now. According to Bird, there will still be a shuttle bus running up and down the trail for sporting events that take place at CHS, and parking while construction is going on should not be a issue for sporting events.
