On March 8, Student Venture will sponsor the sixth annual Carmel Idol event, which will take place in the Dale E. Graham auditorium at 7 p.m.
According to Student Venture sponsor Brian Clark, in order to promote the event, club members will make video announcements, create posters and pass along the information to other students. Promoting the event will generate a larger audience, Clark said.
“Audience participation is my favorite part. They make it interactive and fun. The kids through the grandparents all have fun with it,” Clark said.
However, Clark said there is more to Carmel Idol than singing and entertainment.
“There are a couple of purposes. One, you can involve students from other activities. Two, it promotes student leadership. It’s totally student-led that night, and they’re in front of their peers,” Clark said. “Three, the students talk about God to let people know about making a relationship with God. Four, it’s a way for kids to have a ball and let them make memories in high school.”
According to Kathryn “Kate” Shanklin, Student Action Leadership Team (S.A.L.T.) member and senior, Carmel Idol is currently the main focus of the outreach events.
“As far as other events coming up, I can’t really think of any right now,” Shanklin said.
Although Shanklin said a Beauty Bash event would take place in the near future, she said at the moment, there is not much more information about the event. Shanklin said the event would emphasize the importance of inner beauty over physical appearance.
However, both Clark and Shanklin said the outreach event for middle school students at Snapperz on Feb. 10 was successful.
“Snapperz- it surprised us. It met a need for middle school parents to have their kids entertained in a safe, fun environment,” Clark said. “High school students led a short program so (the middle school students) could hear about God. We were expecting about 50 kids, but we got about 140.”
Shanklin said she agrees with Clark, “Snapperz went really well. We had a lot more students than we expected. Over 100 students made it out to the event.”
