Every week, the Cru Club meets before school on Tuesday from 7 to 7:30 a.m. to discuss plans for the club. Once every month however, the club meets for what it calls “Big Mondays.”
According to Jessica Keys, senior and Student Action Leadership Team (SALT) leader, “Big Monday” is when Cru Club meets on Monday night instead of Tuesday morning. “It’s something new we’re doing this year for kids who want to come but don’t like getting up early,” Keys said via email.
Once in a while, Cru members from all across the country come to collaborate their ideas and thoughts about how the club is doing and in which direction they should take it. Brian Clark, Cru Carmel Area Director, says that it is a great way to plan the year. “This weekend there were 18 CHS grads that are a part of the Cru Club that met with 70-80 other students involved in Cru in IN/OH for a leadership retreat. It was great to plan the year and hear what others are doing as well,” Clark said.
The Cru Club has a dance-off for diabetes awareness scheduled for Oct. 8. However, Mr. Clark isn’t sure whether or not the event will take place. “I am going to be honest and say I am not sure we are going to follow through on it as it has to be initiated and done by students. I am not 100 percent certain they will,” Clark said.
