Lifelines officers and sponsor Rebekah Overbey discuss new plans for Red Ribbon Week awareness. The club’s annual pre-spring break week is next week. It is about making good choices relating to alcohol and drugs and encouraging students to be there for their friends.
Lifelines will host a workshop for Red Ribbon Week on Sept. 23 after school in Room A201. Meetings will continue on Blue Day Wednesdays at 7:05 a.m. in the Community Room.
Senior and officer Eric Cui said events will be planned for creating ribbons, organizing a guest speaker for the presentation, creating a trivia game and decorating doors. Members will discuss the possibility of sponsoring a presentation during Red Ribbon Week about new laws on reporting suspicious activity and texting and driving.
“I hope this year we will be able to increase the people we can get our message out to and that we can help people make good decisions,” Cui said.
According to sponsor Rebekah Overbey, four new committee members have been chosen and results will be posted outside of Room A201 by the end of the next week. The committee members will spearhead the organizing and planning of events, beginning with Red Ribbon Week.
“I want students to think about the choices they make and how they affect not only themselves, but others too,” Overbey said. “That’s the emphasis of Red Ribbon Week, and that’s kind of our emphasis all year long too.”
