Students for Education might not be continuing due to conflicts with the administrators. As of right now, they don’t have a sponsor. According to Sherri Pankratz, sponsor for the past five years, it is a problem with transportation and supervision of the students. President Nailah Khatri said that they are working with the administration to restart the club.
Pankratz said, “When I sponsored the club, it was a sponsorship where Ivy Ann [club founder and CHS graduate] just needed an adult’s name on the sponsorship form, but it turned into trips twice a week down to a shelter, and they need someone who’s a school sponsor to do that, and I just don’t have two nights a week to go to a shelter.”
Students for Education is a club dedicated to tutoring kids at homeless shelters. Every year, they pick a different shelter. Pankratz said that there plan this year was to continue what they have always been doing- providing services in tutoring to children who live in a homeless shelter.
Since the club has started five years ago, it has grown to about 20 to 25 students.
Vice president Nivedha Meyyappan said, “It is a great way to not only help yourself, but also children who need a friend.”
According to Pankratz, it’s a profoundly rewarding service to needy kids.
Pankratz said, “What matters is that every adult is put through the criminal background check. Every time you have adults working with students, you need to be in that situation of safety and when transporting students; you need to make sure you are capable of transporting the students safely.”
