Carmel Connects Club plans to meet on Jan. 14 in Room F104 to continue the reimaging and repurposing process for Net Literacy. The club meets every Monday after school to progress on its yearly production goal, according to junior and board member Tobias Wrammerfors.
According to club sponsor Margaret Winans, Carmel Connects Club has been quite productive despite having software problems early on.
“We have made a lot of progress even though Microsoft has been throwing obstacles in our way. Most of the computers we reimage are old computers from the media center. In previous years, it was easier to override the computers. Recently Microsoft made some changes for security reasons. Because of this we are still making progress but it has really slowed us down,” Wrammerfors said.
In order to reimage the computers, club members now need to obtain a product key, which is a code they need to override the system. “Microsoft makes it obnoxiously difficult repurpose with (the product key) system. Sometimes we actually have to call them and read a long code to an automated machine, and then finally we are able reimage the computer. Also, if you mess up in the process you have to start all over again,” Wrammerfors said.
Nonetheless, Winans said the club plans on supplying as many computers as possible to Net Literacy for distribution by the end of the year.
