DECA members have begun preparing for the district competition scheduled to run Jan. 19 at Westfield High School.
The district competition will be one of the first competitions that new DECA members will participate in. This event, located at Westfield High School, will host many local schools, including Hamilton Southeastern, Sheridan, Westfield and Guerin high schools. According to sponsor Laura Cardamon, the competition will be very useful for new DECA members.
“Doing something like the district competition will definitely help our new junior members get a taste of what the DECA competitions are like,” Cardamon said. “In addition, it will also prepare us for the state competition, which will take place in a few weeks.”
The competition will involve a combination of role-plays of a variety of business situations and a 100-point multiple-choice test.
Shannon Edelstein, DECA president and senior, said that she is very excited about the DECA competitions and events coming up this year.
“I am very excited even though I can’t participate in the district competition,” said Edelstein. “State is coming up soon and it’s going to be a blast.”
