The CHS Economics Club will begin its competition season in approximately two months, kicking it off at the Indiana Economics Challenge on April 9. In preparation for this competition, the members will start meeting more frequently. According to Michelle Foutz, coach of the Economics Club, the members of the club currently meet every Gold Friday.
During practices, members break into two teams and focus on one event: the quiz bowl round. Senior Vaibhav Vavilala said, “The last two years, our AP division dominated the written portion of the contest, but lost by only one or two (questions) in the quiz bowl round.”
Along with group practice, there are also activities available for each member. According to Vavilala, members receive practice tests to do on their own time. Students also use the AP Economics textbook as a major part of their study material, and they keep tabs on major world economic events.
Foutz said, “The students have really put in a lot of time into studying.”
Foutz and Vavilala are confident of this year’s prospects. Vavilala said, “We do well every year and this year’s team is very strong.”
