Members of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) will attend a district meeting on May 18. The meeting will be held at West Park in Carmel, according to Taylor Farmer, club vice president and junior. The members of club plan to raise money for March of Dimes, a charity to help children with birth defects, by participating in a three mile walk, according to Farmer.
Many FCCLA members participated in the FCCLA State Conference, and six of those members qualified for the National Conference. Members of the club raised money for the event, taking place this summer, by selling quiche. According to club sponsor Nancy Spencer, the club profited 500 dollars.
“It was very successful,” said Farmer.
Last week, members of the FCCLA raised 200 dollars for Share Our Strength, which combats child hunger, according to Aliya Malcom, club vice president of communications and junior. Members sold cupcakes in main cafeteria, according to Spencer.
Members of the FCCLA will host their final event of the year, the End of the Year Banquet, on May 22, according to Malcom. Club officers are presenting a slide show of all the years’ events at the banquet.
The power point will give club members a chance to remember the past year. “My favorite part of the year was the dance at State Conference,” said Malcom
“This has been a great year for us,” said Spencer. “But there is always room for improvement.” By Grant Smith
Taylor Farmer, club vice president and junior, helps Aliya Malcom, club vice president of communications and junior, put together a power point to show at the FCCLA End of the Year Banquet. “We will also be announcing officers for the next year,” Malcom said. The banquet is the last event the club will host this school year.
