According to Kandyce Hardie, Diabetes Awareness Club sponsor, the Diabetes Awareness Club does not have any meetings or events scheduled for the rest of the year. After a successful Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) fundraising walk, the club is done for the year and does not plan on continuing next year due to a waning interest.
“This is really common with support group organizations where they go for a few years, but then once people feel like they’ve gotten the help they need from the club, they don’t really come anymore,” said Molly Duncan, Diabetes Awareness Club president and senior.
Next year, the club will not continue.
“I’m graduating and there isn’t any interest for underclassman and for juniors who want to continue it,” Duncan said.
Duncan advises people who wish to restart the club to get support from the nurses and to spend a lot of time recruiting members and advertising.
“It’s been really fun, and we’ve made an impact on the community of diabetics here at the high school. I think it’s been a successful club,” Duncan added.
