Baking a Difference club isn’t any ordinary charity-based club: Members of the club, bake to help local charities and organizations.
According to Molly Frank, co-president of Baking a Difference and sophomore, the club makes baked goods to give to charities and also sells the baked goods to raise money for charities.
“I just wanted to do something fun but also make a difference in the world,” Frank said. “I also just wanted to get a group of students together to give back to our community.”
Frank started the club with help of Jessica Bowman, Nutrition and Wellness teacher and sponsor for Baking a Difference. Frank said she approached Bowman last spring to ask if she could sponsor the club.
Bowman said,“I thought the idea was fantastic, and I knew that (Frank) could put together a good group and really get people pulled into the club, and I signed on right away and said let’s do this.”
The club’s goal this year is to adopt a family for the holidays from the Julian Center.
“We plan to have bake sales to raise money for that,” Frank said.
The club meets once a month and chooses an organization to help for that month. According to Frank, sometimes the club may spend more than a month helping the specific organization, depending on its size.
