According to Science Bowl sponsor Virginia Kundrat, the Science Bowl’s first competition will be the Regional competition, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, during the first week of March.
“The three teams are working as teams. They’re preparing, learning their subject areas, and we’ll be doing competitions between the teams to prepare for the competitions coming up,” said Kundrat.
“Each team practices individually until we come closer to regionals,” said Joshua Segaran, co-founder of Science Bowl. According to Segaran, during a typical group meeting, members can expect to be broken up into two two-person teams with one person reading the sample questions from the online Science Bowl website. The next meeting for all individual teams has not been scheduled yet.
Science Bowl will still accept members; however, they will not be allowed to compete in competitions this year.
“The teams this year have already been set, but at least they can have opportunities to practice and see how it works when they do the inner-team competitions here,” said Kundrat.
“I’d recommend (for people wishing to join) to learn the stuff you study in class and just read books. There’s no specific way to study for this. It’s just general knowledge (and) stuff you learn,” added Segaran.
“I think we have a good chance (of winning) with such a strong team from last year here again this year, and all the freshmen who won the middle school competition this year,” said Kundrat.
