On Oct. 17, the men’s cross-country team competed in the Brebeuf Regional and won first place with 68 points.
According to Head Coach Erhard “Doc” Bell, teams qualifying for the Semistate include North Central (89), Noblesville (90), Hamilton Southeastern (114) and Zionsville (122). Other teams that competed in the Regional but did not qualify included Lawrence North (144), Westfield (151), Cathedral (157) Lawrence Central (181) and Brebeuf (237).
The Semistate will take place on Oct. 24 at Northview Christian Church and feature the addition of Number-1 Columbus North. There will be 20 teams competing in the Semistate, with only six advancing to the State meet.
Varsity runner and senior Tom Ohlman said he thinks running against Columbus North will be a very intense race. “They are a team similar to ours in that they are very deep,” Ohlman said. “But we can beat them up front and so we are hoping that this will give us the advantage we need to win.”
Bell also said he anticipates running against Columbus North, and the team continues to train in preparation for the State meet. “Obviously the Number-1 team in the State will provide a strong challenge as we see if we can compete with the best team in Indiana,” Bell said.
“We are feeling really confident about it,” Ohlman said. “We know there is some pretty tough competition, but we have been running well recently so we think we can keep it going into Semistate and State.” By David Zheng <[email protected]>
