On Oct. 25, the sixth annual Ghosts & Goblins 5K/2K & Wellness Fair will occur at CHS. According to Morgan Montgomery, NHS Vice President and senior, the race will start by the Murray Stadium soccer field, a change in location from previous years. Also this year, due to the high turnout and success of last year’s race, registration and the wellness fair will be at the fieldhouse in order to make sure everything goes smoothly.
Joie Li, Ghosts & Goblins Award Coordinator from National Honor Society (NHS) and senior, said via email that NHS plays a key role in organizing the event. “This year, NHS has taken care of three main areas for Ghosts & Goblins: P.R. (public relations), volunteers and awards. We’ve (NHS members) been passing out information cards, promoting the run at events in the community and overall spreading the word. The volunteer committee is in charge of organizing and assigning volunteers from NHS to help out in specific roles while the awards committee is in charge of distributing and organizing awards at the end.”
According to Montgomery, the 5K will start at 9 a.m. and the 2K will start at 9:15 a.m. The goal for NHS for this event is to help the Carmel Education Foundation (CEF) raise money, which will go directly back to Carmel Clay Schools for funding and scholarships.
“Since all of the proceeds go back to the CEF, the money is all benefitting the community in the end, which is awesome. You would be helping out the community while having fun with your friends and family and getting some morning exercise in. What would be better?” said Montgomery.
For prizes and awards, the top three finishers in each race will receive awards along with the top three finishers in each age group for the 5K race; according to Li, prizes will also be awarded for the best youth, adult, and ensemble costume.
“People should definitely go and it’s going to be a blast. You can dress up in your Halloween costume, get a bag of free stuff, run or walk with your friends and just enjoy yourself. If you place in any of the categories, you can even get a medal. It’s just a fun morning activity that the whole family can enjoy. Plus, if high school students register under specific club or SRT (for freshman) names, clubs can earn a 250 dollar grant while a freshman SRT can earn a pizza party,” Li said via email.
