Chess Club sponsor Margaret Winans said that the next club meeting will be on Feb. 16 in Room F103 after school. The club will continue to meet every Monday after school until 4 p.m., where late bus passes are provided.
According to Sam Philleo, Chess Club co-president and sophomore, the club continues to use the bughouse, “which is partner chess to analyze each other’s games and playing speed. It’s just to prepare for (the) state (competition),” he said.
Regardless of whether they will or won’t participate in the state competition scheduled for March 21 this year, new members are encouraged to attend club meetings. Club members play for both recreation and competition to learn new chess skills from other members.
On the Jan. 24 individual’s state championships this year, Philleo came in 11th out of 19 places with a rate of 1731.
So far, there have been no plans for t-shirt orders or designs, according to Philleo.
