According to assistant orchestra director Elisabeth Ohly-Davis, orchestra members attending the Austria spring break trip will leave on April 2 and come back on April 9. The members will fly to Munich, then take a bus to Salzburg to visit tourist attractions there. After visiting Salzburg, they will take a bus to Vienna to perform their orchestral pieces. The trip was open to all orchestra members who are not freshmen.
Ohly-Davis said, “Most of our days are touristy days, and then on the last two days, we’ll do Saint Stephen’s Cathedral on Tuesday (April 7), and on Wednesday (April 8), we’ll play at at Esterházy Palace. So, (there will be) two evening concerts, but for the rest of the time, we’ll be sightseeing and listening to music.”
Some of the many tourist attractions the orchestra members will visit include the birthplace of composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a couple of museums, salt mines in Salzburg, Melk Abbey and Schönbrunn Palace, according to Ohly-Davis.
Andrea Hill, Symphony Orchestra member and senior, said she is excited for the upcoming trip. She said, “I think it’s going to be a really awesome trip. I’m excited to see a lot of historical sights. We’re visiting places like the birthplace of Mozart, so it’ll be cool to see the birthplace of classical music.”
