Morgan Montgomery, NHS vice president and senior, answers a student’s question at the last meeting of the 2014-2015 school year. The new junior class was inducted into NHS on March 22. Students from this year interested in running for officer positions need to submit their campaign speeches by April 28.
On May 5, the incoming class of NHS members will elect their officers for their first meeting of the 2015-2016 school year.
The election process has changed slightly since last year. NHS members interested in running for a spot on student council should submit a video version of their election speech to head sponsor Michele Satchwell by April 28. These videos will be shown at the May 5 meeting where members will then elect the council members for next year.
Although the full list of candidates is not yet known, Abby Zetzl, incoming NHS member and junior, already has an idea of which candidates she will vote for.
“I’m looking for people that are kind, diligent and well-organized,” she said. “NHS is a big organization, so staying on top of everything is crucial.”
Despite not having elected a council yet, according to Satchwell, big plans are already in the works for next year. NHS will be partnering with the business department to create a marketing plan for their various fundraisers and projects.
“They will really proactively be managing our charitable giving,” Satchwell said. “I’m very excited.”
