The Science Olympiad teams callout meeting will be held tomorrow after school in room B223. According to club sponsor Cynthia Henry, “The officers will be putting together a presentation for the new students to tell them what Science Olympiad is about and what they can expect.”
Additionally call out meeting attendees should predict to hear about the new goals the club has set this year. Henry said, “I am hoping the students will do better this year than they did last year. We got second in state last year and I hope we might improve and jump a level.” Vice president Darren Chang said, “We think this year we have a very good chance at qualifying for the national tournament, so we are pushing to be the best team in Indiana.”
Club officers will explain the 23 categories the Science Olympiad teams will be competing in. According to Henry, “A team of 15 people compete in those events and we usually take about 2 or 3 teams. Then as the season goes on it gets riddled down to one team who we will hopefully take to state.”
The Science Olympiad season lasts from early December to March. Practices will start taking place once a week very soon and then twice a week once the team is closer to competitions. Henry is excited for the 2015-2016 season and says, “I really enjoy being the sponsor the kids. They are really into it, they are really serious about it and they really work hard. Their enthusiasm is what motivates me”
