September is library card sign-up month at the media center, according to media department chairperson Terri Ramos.
“We partner with Carmel Clay Public Library (CCPL), so it’s for teachers in order to get their faculty card, which gives them more opportunity and access to library privileges, including the digital part, which is not available to them when it’s just a reciprocal card,” Ramos said. “So if they live somewhere else in Indy, Noblesville, Westfield, whatever, they don’t have a Carmel Clay library card, but they can if teachers, same thing with students, if they happen to be the children of those teachers, for example, and they go here.”
There are many websites that CCPL offers access to, such as Pronunciator.com, a world language tool; Zinio, a digital magazine website; 10 hours of Hoopla, a website with digital movies, music, ebooks and more; and Tutor.com, which offers homework help. Tutor.com is available from 3 to 11 p.m. every day.
Ramos said, “I know (Tutor.com has) resume review, they have paper analysis, they have homework help just in general if you have a question on your homework. They have essay and cover letter, and all sorts of writing pieces that you can submit there and they’ll give you a 24 hour turnaround on those as a review and editing process, so Tutor.com is a free service that you can take advantage of as a student at night when you need help.”
Additionally, the media center added new carpet and furniture. The furniture was replaced throughout most of the library, such as the multipurpose room, the seating area in the fiction room, the multimedia lab, and the new classroom in the old copy center, according to Ramos.
Hannah Stigter, media aide and junior, said likes the new furniture because it makes all parts of the media center more accessible.
“It makes it flow easier in here and it’s easier to get through,” Stigter said.
