According to Caren Rickett, club sponsor and Latin teacher the club will meet Oct. 13 to prepare for the final meeting in late April. According to Rickett, normally the club meets in A231 until the late bus, where late bus passes will then be provided.
According to Katie Schmelz, senior and club member, at their last meeting, Sept. 29, the club focused on Roman mythology.
“So Jordan (J) Gallaway gave a short lesson on what mythology was and some quick myths. Then we played several kahoots on Roman myths. There were some other traditional Latin games, but I’m not quite sure I remember their names,” Schmelz said.
According to Schmelz, each meeting follows a similar schedule: talk about the syllabus; conduct activities, food and then plan for the next meeting. “You don’t have to be in a Latin class to be in the club. That’s a common misconception,” she said.
According to Rickett, the final convention will include multiple Latin events including competitive language tests, small gladiator matches, mythology trivia and sports chants. The group will stay overnight at the convention.
“I’m most excited to see where this year leads us. We have an amazing group this year that have a bunch of new activities for us to do. Plus, I know that all the outside events are going to be new and fun with lots of different opportunities to meet new people,” Schmelz said.
