Kathryn Lin, National Merit Semifinalist and senior, reads her government textbook in AP Government. Lin said being recognized at the Oct. 26 board meeting was an honor.
According to the Carmel Clay Schools website, the school board plans to have a workshop session 7 p.m. on Nov. 9. The board also plans to have a meeting Nov. 23 at 7 p.m.. School board president Layla Spanenberg said workshop sessions were good opportunities for teachers to present on new initiatives of the school board.
She also said the public could garner knowledge from workshop meetings.
“It’s a great opportunity for the general public to better understand what’s going on and for the board members to see what action is happening” Spanenberg said.
The school board recently had a regular board meeting on Oct. 26, in which National Merit Semifinalists at CHS were recognized. During this meeting, the school board was also recommended to adopt “2016 Budgets, the Capital Projects Fund Plan and the Twelve Year Bus Replacement Plan.” In addition, more course changes were proposed to be included in the 2016-2017 Program of Studies.
Kathryn Lin, National Merit Semifinalist and senior, was recognized at the meeting.
“It was a really proud moment for me. Personally, being named a semifinalist seemed really arbitrary but then the recognition ceremony kind of put it into perspective, and that’s when it clicks, like, ‘Hey, I did this.’”
