According to Miranda Frausto, Environmental Action Club co-president and junior, Environmental Action Club did not receive a Carmel Green Teen grant for its Earth Fair. As a result, the club is currently revising its plans for the fair to account for the lack of grant money.
According to Elizabeth Baach, Environmental Action Club co-president and senior, Earth Fair will be on April 16 from 2 to 5 p.m. One of the locations the club is considering is Eleven Fifty Academy.
“Right now, we’re talking about alternatives to having grant money, so we’re looking what we can get for free, what we can get donated, if we can get any money from other organizations and other grants, and how we should take this from a new angle,” she said. “Rather than having everything planned out, we’re just trying to get everything together.”
Baach said because of the lack of grant money, the fair would probably involve homemade or donated food instead of catered food.
However, she said Earth Fair will still involve speakers, organizations with booths and sustainability-related games. The club plans to ask for speakers from Carmel Green Initiative, a group of citizens and community organizations dedicated to reducing Carmel’s environmental impact.
Kara House, Environmental Action Club sponsor and AP Environmental Science teacher, said she expects the club to be more project-based next year.
“The students will decide what their project is for the year,” she said. “I think a lot of them will be about school issues, like paper use, energy use (and) food consumption or waste.”
