At their meeting on Feb. 14, Rebecca Colucci, acting director of Campus Crusaders of Christ (CRU), discussed the advancements of Carmel Idol. CRU members based the event off of the popular TV show American Idol where singers compete before a group of judges who vote for the winner.
According to Colucci, Carmel Idol is similarly organized. Singing teams have given audition videos to CRU leaders who then chose 10 auditioners to compete in a live performance on March 7. At this performance, anyone who attends the meeting will be able to vote for a winning team. This winning team will receive $500 and an extra $500 will go to a charity of the winners’ choice.
One team of competitors are junior Liam Hansen and sophomore Alexander Ritchison. According to Ritchison, they performed a duet of Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. ‘s “Me and My Shadow” for their audition video.
“I like how (the song) brought out the deeper pitches because my partner is a baritone and I’m a tenor,” Ritchison said. “It had sort of both of our aspects, and it fit our voices really well.” By Garrison Davis
