On the night of Oct. 7, two to five members of Student Venture’s Student Action Leadership Team (S.A.L.T.) will leave for a national prayer conference in Houston. According to Kate Shanklin, S.A.L.T. member and senior, the Carmel participants will meet with student leaders from Student Ventures across the country. This is the first conference in 10 years.
“We plan to pray for the year, look at what other high schools are doing and see if we can bring it back to Carmel. We’ll also have time for worship and individual quiet times,” Shanklin said.
Shanklin said the two to five members going are also part of S.A.L.T., meaning that they lead the weekly Bible studies for high school and middle school students.
S.A.L.T. members and sponsors also enforce the purpose of Student Venture, which sponsor Kim TenBrink said is to help students develop multiple areas of their spiritual life.
TenBrink said, “The purpose is to help students find out how a relationship with God relates to their everyday life and how to grow and develop in that relationship.”
At the last meeting on Sept. 6, club members met for the annual ice cream outreach, a tradition that Shanklin said has taken place every year she’s been involved in the club. This was also a part of the middle school meetings this past week.
Shanklin said, “Students always look forward to this. It’s exciting to see new faces and to watch more of them grow in their faith.”
