The CHS Academic Decathlon team won first place at the regional competition on Jan. 21. They will compete at the State competition on Feb. 10 to Feb. 12.
“We honestly didn’t expect to do as well as we did,” Nina Sun, honors member and junior, said.
Club sponsor Wendy Gerardot said she couldn’t have been more proud of the nine team members.
“To see them come together like that was so team like,” Gerardot said. “It was great.”
According to Gerardot, everyone on the CHS team earned a medal for at least one of the 10 categories.
“Seeing our varsity kids medal was the best because they were definitely the least confident,” Gerardot said.
Sun said she is excited for the State competition and hopes the team does as well there as it did at the regional competition.
Gerardot said the kids have been reviewing materials and have several meeting planned before State.
Gerardot said, “I just hope it’ll be as fun as an experience as regionals were.”
