Diversity Focus Group (DFG) members continue to celebrate Black History Month with Lifelines by showing trivia, movies and TV shows on the announcements and playing music during Friday passing periods. On Feb. 16, DFG members will visit Jeff Henderson, a African-American chef on the Food Network, according to DFG sponsor Joseph Schaller.
Schaller said for the Black History Month trivia questions, the SRT teacher should answer the question by email, and the SRT that answers the most questions correctly and turns them in the quickest will receive a bag of candy at the end of the month.
Schaller said, “We’ve gotten a lot of responses on the questions and in the past, I’ve heard a lot of people talk about the movies we show.”
Alaina Finkelmeier, DFG member and senior, said she agrees with such a positive response.
“I think we have gotten good responses with the trivia. I know people have enjoyed watching the videos, and it’s been good feedback we’ve been getting,” Finkelmeier said. “There have been episodes of ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ playing and music every Friday on the announcements by black artists, celebrating all different African Americans throughout history. It’s probably not as big as an impact of what we wish to make, but our goal is to make CHS culturally aware.”
Schaller said, “All this is just for bringing awareness and getting (students) to think about things about black history that they may not think about before and learning more about it.”
