Jordan Flowers, Kids’ Corner member and senior, prepares lesson plans for when she is one of the head teachers. Flowers and the other Kids’ Corner seniors will begin teaching the preschool class on Feb. 21.
The first day of teaching for Kids’ Corner seniors has moved from Feb. 14 to Feb. 21. Kids’ Corner teacher Kimberly Lenzo said that starting on Feb. 21 works better with the calendar since the seniors have 10 weeks of teaching each semester.
According to Lenzo, there are more seniors in Kids’ Corner this semester than ever before. So, in addition to teaching the preschool class, Kids’ Corner seniors will rotate between teaching and working with the school district’s Edu-Care program at both Carmel and Clay Middle Schools. Edu-Care will give the students the opportunity to work with infants and toddlers, as opposed to the four- and five-year olds in Kids’ Corner.
Jordan Flowers, Kids’ Corner member and senior, said she looks forward to working with all different ages of kids, even though she was unaware when she signed up for Kids’ Corner that she would help with Edu-Care.
“My first rotation is Edu-Care. I don’t know which I’ll like better, but I’m glad we get to do both (Edu-Care and Kids’ Corner.) I might want to teach when I’m older, so this experience should help me see what it’s like,” Flowers said.
Lenzo said the theme for the first week will be ‘Welcome Back,’ since although there is a new set of seniors, the preschoolers are returning.
