After the successful triathlon, the aquatics center hosted its last spring lessons the week of April 30 and is ready for the summer programs. Aquatics center director Kinsey Wallace said the newest program is the Summer Shape-up Class.
“It starts in May, and kids come swim and train to get ready for their neighborhood swim events,” Wallace said. Carmel Swim Club members will coach the class, according to Wallace.
Diver and sophomore Laura Rokop said she is excited for the summer activities.
“I’ll be (life guard) certified by the end of the school year. Hopefully I’ll guard here during the summer,” Rokop said. New summer swim lessons will take place June through July on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday shifts.
“I’m also really excited to start a new project. It’s for all those kids who don’t have a neighborhood swim team, so I’m gonna make them one,” Wallace said. The mini-swim team will train at the aquatics center during the summer and compete alongside neighborhood teams in neighborhood competitions.
Wallace said, “I am still looking for guards…with the summer there are a lot more hours and shifts.”
