According to Linda Christy, college counselor at the College and Career Resource Center (CCRC), seniors should be well into the college application process now, especially those applying for the early action deadline, which is typically Nov. 1. The CCRC provides seniors with college counseling and information through its Facebook and Twitter pages, she said. Its staff also organizes college representative visits and presentations like those held during College Go Week.
Senior Brandon Stephens, who attended the college application workshop hosted by the CCRC on Sept. 26, said he has accessed school resources by attending college representative visits and getting help with his transcript, since he moved to this school in his junior year. Stephens said he is currently in the organizational process of his college applications.
“I’m just figuring out what I’ve done and what I need to do,” Stephens said.
Stephens said he hopes to finish his early action application to Belmont University by mid-October and finish the others in November and December. However, he said, he finds it difficult to balance completing college applications with classwork and orchestra.
“Emotionally, it’s still been really stressful,” Stephens said.
Christy said she advises seniors to focus on finding the college that is the best fit for them and visiting campuses to help make that decision.
“Don’t stress if you don’t have a college major,” Christy said via email. “The majority of students who attend college knowing their major end up changing it before they graduate.”
