Members of the Academic Decathlon team have been studying for the upcoming Regional competition on Jan. 19. “I think we will do great at Regionals. Our main focus is still State and to beat Martinsville,” club sponsor Wendy Gerardot said via email.
Emily Weerakkody, club president and senior, said she agrees that State is the main focus for the team right now. “I think we’ll be ready by then,” Weerakkody said.
“We are way ahead than we were last year and people are working more consistently,” Gerardot said.
Weerakkody said she has been following the schedule, but plans on catching up over winter break. “It’s a nice buffer for everyone,” she said.
At the most recent meeting the team members discussed speech topics, received additional study guides, made flash cards and looked at the artwork that they will be tested over.
Gerardot said, “I don’t make the kids prove they’re studying to me. It’ll just be obvious.”
