Model U.N. is preparing to start its 2013 season. According to Peter O’Hara, Model U.N. club sponsor, said that the members have begun the process of getting their countries and committees for this year. O’Hara said that this year, they have selected 20 different countries from IUPUI’s Model U.N. organization. At the next meeting on Dec. 3, students will find out if they will receive the countries that they had requested, and will the start the process of preparation for the Model U.N. convention in March. “Be prepared to find out your committee assignment,” O’Hara said.
Eleanor Spolyar, Model U.N. member and senior, is participating in Model U.N. for her second year. Spolyar enjoys Model U.N. and encourages other students to join as well. “It opens up your mind and puts yourself in a real life situation,” Spolyar said.
The Model U.N. year is in full swing and once the countries are announced at the next meeting, students should begin to study to learn about their given country. Model U.N. is a way to get an understanding of what happens around us. “It’s a good experience,” Spolyar said.
