At its last meeting during SRT, the Economics Club prepared for its upcoming competition, the Indiana Economics Challenge, in Indianapolis on April 9. The competition is split into two divisions: Adam Smith and David Ricardo. The Adam Smith division is for students in AP Economics, while the David Ricardo division is for students who are either in a regular economics course or have never taken economics.
According to senior Vaibhav Vavilala, the Economics Club did well during past competitions. “The last two years, we made it to the Quiz Bowl but lost by one question,” Vavilala said. He said he had no doubts the team could win the competition this year.
The team practiced for the competition by sitting in teams and using buzzers in a quick, jeopardy-style oral contest. Michelle Foutz, the Economics Club coach, said, “The competition includes the oral Quiz Bowl as well as written tests.”
Vavilala said, “Econ Club provides an avenue for CHS economics students to apply their knowledge in a fun, engaging environment. As long as you know your stuff and don’t choke during the quiz bowl, you can get pretty far.”
