During SRT on Feb. 7, Carmel High School will participate in the Great American Shakeout. As part of the Great American Shakeout, students will go through an earthquake drill. Plans for the fire drill following the earthquake drill have been cancelled due to a fire drill on Feb. 6.
According to assistant principal Amy Skeens-Benton, CHS participated in the Great American Shakeout during the previous four years. The main reason CHS decided to participate in the Great American Shakeout is because Indiana suffered through a bunch of minor, but recent, earthquakes. Along with Indiana, several other states such as Kentucky, Illinois, Missouri, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Alabama will participate in the Great American Shakeout. According to the Great American Shakeout website, around 12.5 million citizens participated last year.
“This will be a good experience for (the students) to learn from,” said Skeens-Benton. “During SRT, we will shake it up.”
