The Academic Decathlon team placed third at the State competition at Purdue on Feb. 8 and 9 behind Martinsville and Lowell, according to Emily Weerakkody, club president and senior.
“The team performed pretty well overall but the other teams really brought their A-game this year so it was a tough competition,” Weerakkody said.
According to Weerakkody, almost every team member earned a medal at the competition. Both Weerakkody and senior Humphry Lin, earned individual medals in their division as well.
In April, the team is eligible to compete in an online competition, specifically for large schools.
Club sponsor Wendy Gerardot said the team is looking forward to the competition and will continue studying for that.
Weerakkody plans to start recruiting members for next year’s team in the upcoming months.
