Members of the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) will attend the State Conference, from March 7 to 9, according to Aliya Malcom, club vice president of communications and junior. The conference will include opportunities for the members of the FCCLA to compete in Students Taking Action with Recognition events, or STAR events.
“A lot more members are becoming involved because of State,” said Justin Burnett, club member and junior.
STAR events have a wide variety of categories, according to Malcom. Burnett is doing his on alternative transportation. “I’m trying to get people to pledge to ride their bike instead of using cars,” he said.
The State Conference will also include guest speakers, including hypnotist Bryan Fiese, according to club sponsor Nancy Spencer. “Fiese isn’t just a hypnotist for entertainment,” said Maddie Troy, club secretary and junior. “He uses your subconscious to help you achieve success.”
The club will still hold its annual fundraiser, March of Dimes, on May 18, according to Spencer. The event will raise money for children with birth defects. “Although we are focusing on State Conference right now, we will get back into fundraising as soon as we can,” said Malcom.
