Biology club members, including freshman Luke Obrique, have studied all year to prepare for periodic testing throughout the 2012-13 school year. The last test, Biology Olympiad, took place in mid-February and earned the team positive scores. Members of the club meet every other blue Monday to compare answers and essentially prepare for competitions.
Club sponsor Cindy Radaker said how impressed she was with each member. “Studying and interpreting many of these concepts individually aren’t the easiest or most enjoyable tasks to do,” she said. “I am proud to say many of them will have the opportunity to reach nationally ranked levels, something very few will have on their transcripts. I am impressed with the amount of motivation each one of them has.”
Obrique joined the club to not only get a head start on biology, but to one day have a better chance of getting into an Ivy League school. He hopes to one day receive national recognition and various competitions throughout the year are meant to help him achieve success. “Two hours of study time seems plenty, I don’t want to become overwhelmed,” Obrique said. He plans to continue on as a member of Biology Club next year as a sophomore.
