Club Med has scheduled a guest speaker to address club members during a meeting on Sept. 23, according to Omeed Malek, Club Med president and senior. The guest speaker, Dr. Hamideh Zarrinmayeh, is a central nervous system drug discoverer.
“Guest speakers allow members to peer through the lens of a professional, which members want to be. They also allow students to see firsthand what kind of a work a professional does,” Malek said.
Club Med sponsor Sarah Gillim said she agrees.
“Speakers give students a real world into the research and jobs that people actually do outside of school. They are supposed to prepare students for the real world without actually being in it,” Gillim said.
Although early, Malek said he has already started planning for the annual Club Med trip to the Indiana Medical History Museum, which was previously a mental institution. He said the trip will fall approximately around fall break. Ordinarily, he said, club members take a tour of the museum.
“We get to take a look at cross sections of brains, listen to a lecture, view lobotomy room, and view a morgue room,” Malek said.
Recently, Malek has formed an Indiana Club Med, which covers CHS Club Med and those from other schools, such as Park Tudor School and Fishers High School. According to Malek, a new Indiana Club Med was necessary in order to avoid the legal implications of linking other schools to CHS.
