Members of Homework Helpers continue to volunteer at the various elementary schools in Carmel. The members sign in at the elementary before volunteering, and the supervisors of the after school program assign jobs to the members to help the elementary kids.
Co-president and junior Brooke Hosfeld said, “I work with first grade a lot, so I get to know the kids very well since it is the same group. They would have some time playing for a little bit, but then when they started to work on their homework, I’d either help them if they needed it, or I would just make sure they were doing their homework.”
According to sponsor Leslie McCarty, her responsibility lies in tallying up hours that members log in at the end of the year.
“(Members) will log their hours themselves, and I’ll verify them by the end of the year for recording purposes,” said McCarty.
Hosfeld said the club will run like this for the rest of the year, and no new developments have surfaced. The club continues to just run itself, and members will continue the cycle of volunteering and logging their hours on the Carmel Clay Parks and Recreation website.
“I would basically hang out with some of the kids,” said Hosfeld. ” I also keep them busy and make sure they aren’t getting into any trouble.”
