Philosophy Club will meet after school on Jan. 30 in Room A331. Members should prepare to continue discussing philosophic history. The club will provide snacks, like cookies, as usual.
During the first semester, the members of Philosophy Club began discussing pre-Socratic philosophy. At the previous meeting on Dec. 12, the members discussed different Greek and Roman philosophers and also finished discussing pre-Socratic philosophy, now officially moving on to post-Socratic philosophy. Jackie Hu, club member and sophomore, said she is very interested in the history of philosophy.
Hu said, “It’s fascinating how philosophers back then learned so much about the world around them even though they started out basically from scratch.”
This semester, the club plans to continue discussing philosophical history by first discussing older and then more modern philosophy. According to Philosophy Club sponsor Peter Beck, this focus on history in the club is new.
“This year, we’ve introduced more topics of philosophy from the past and the growth of philosophy over time,” Beck said.
Regardless of the topics the club chooses, Hu said she enjoys talking with others and sharing her ideas.
Hu said, “I learned a lot about philosophy in the first semester and also had fun. I am really looking forward to another semester of discussing topics and philosophizing.”
