According to Science Bowl sponsor Virginia Kundrat, the first place Science Bowl team is continuing to practice individually and prepare for the upcoming National competition in Washington D.C. on April 24 to 28.
“Out of 2000 teams, they’re one of the final teams going to Nationals, and they have several things set up. It’s sponsored by the Department of Energy, so there’s going to be a lot of scientists there to interact with the students,” Kundrat said.
The National competition will feature questions that require the team to apply science to different problems. The rest of the competition will be held in a Jeopardy format.
“I think they’re very well prepared. I think they have a very good chance of doing very well,” Kundrat said.
“Last year they got fifth, and this year, they’ll probably do even better,” Darren Chang, Science Bowl member and freshman, said.
The other Science Bowl teams that have finished competing for the year will decide among themselves whether they want to meet to continue practicing or take a break.
“I don’t know if they’re still working on the material or taking a break until the summer or fall. It’s really up to the individual teams,” Kundrat said.
“We’re studying by ourselves and practicing sample questions we found online. Maybe in the summer we’ll meet a couple times. Right now, we’re not really doing anything,” Chang said.
