The women’s soccer team will play a home game against Metropolitan Interscolastic Conferece rival Warren Central on Aug. 31 at 7 p.m.
Sophomore Amy Malone plays on the soccer team, and said she loves playing good competition. “Playing a team like Warren is always fun because they are a MIC rival and a major competitior for our football team, so it’s fun to play them in soccer too,” Malone said.
Assistant coach Julie Faas said she has high expectations for this year’s team. “Our expectation is to win State. No player on the current team has been a part of a State championship. We have a very talented team that has the ability to accomplish this goal,” Faas said via e-mail.
Faas also said this year’s team is different from past teams she has coached. “The team this year has eight seniors who are all leaders on the team,” Faas said via e-mail. “This team is very focused and driven to succeed and will settle for nothing less.”
Malone said that she has been impressed with the student support at past home games, and hopes the support continues. “We have had more fans this year, which is really cool to see,” she said. “We have a really experienced team, so I think we have a good chance to win State.”
