On Sept. 28 and 29 the women’s golf team will compete in its State match at Legends Golf Course in Franklin. This match comes six days after the team finished first in its Regional tournament. Head Coach Ken Kelly said although the team won its Regional, its focus has been on the State match this week.
“We are continuing the same routines that have got us through the tournament so far,” Kelly said. “I have put a focus on short game this week.”
Maggie Rees, golf team member and sophomore, also said that the formats of the practices have remained the same, but they have introduced one change to prepare for State.
“This week we have been playing at Praire View from the expected yardages at the Legends to get a better feel for the course,” Rees said.
The four top players that will play in the State match are Maggie Rees, juniors Sophie Kelner and Makenzie Curtis and senior Susan Friedlander. Kelly said his team’s experience will give it an advantage this weekend.
“All four of these players have played at State before,” Kelly said. “We have a great deal of experience coming back this season that should be a factor when they play the course.”
The team has finished in the top ten in State since 2007.
