According to Senior Class president Krishna Pathak, the Senior Class has scheduled to build playhouses on Wednesday, Sept. 10 from 4 to 8 p.m., keeping with its annual Homecoming week activities. Building will take place after school in the parking lot north of the stadium. Anyone may participate, according to Pathak, who also said no sign-in is required. Class officers will provide base materials and supplies, so students do not need to bring any building materials.
“Building playhouses is a tradition in CHS for class officers to take part in, inviting their students of their grade constituency to join them in. They are donated to charity,” Pathak said. “Playhouse building is a very fun and simple way to invite all students from your class, those who you have and have not met before, to go on a quasi team-building activity to build a playhouse.”
After students build the playhouses, Senior Class sponsor Ann Mayhew said a panel of teachers and administrators will judge them. The tradition of building of playhouses is at least 10 years old, according to Mayhew.
“We build playhouses as part of the homecoming competition between the classes and to raise money for the charities that each class is sponsoring,” Mayhew said, via email. “Several years ago, there was a Harry Potter playhouse. I liked it so much, I bought it for my little kids.”
Pathak said he encourages students to participate. “(Students can) get to know your class officers and meet new students, all for the good of charity and the spirit of Homecoming week,” he said.
The Senior Class has also scheduled to decorate the senior hallway after school on Friday.
